I have acquired a long time ago the Abit AW8-MAX motherboard but in over 2 years of testing I have not succeeded in making it run despite trying countless combinations of hardware. I do not usually give up on Abit hardware but I do not know what to do anymore.
What I have already tried:
PSU: Corsair RM650/750/850, Antec 650
CPU: Pentium 4 3000 Prescott/Cedar Mill; Pentium D 940/950
Ram: 512mb OCZ; Kingston 1gb; Corsair 2gb various models and revisions
GPU: 7600gt/8600gt/ and so on.
I have tested inside a case with all connectors hooked up and on the table with only the CPU, 1 stick of RAM and GPU.
After switching the power supply on the POST code indicates 99 as usual - the board is equipped with a POST code display . As soon as I press the Power button the system starts for 1 brief second than it shuts down immediately than it restarts again and shut down again and so on. The only way to break the cycle is to switch off the PSU. I suspect there is a short somewhere but I do not know where. There is no beep, nothing appears on the POST code because the system shuts down so fast I only see 99 - the code that indicates a successful shut down.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
