Hi! If you read my previous topic you know that i had no problem running my pci voodoo3 in windows 95 even in glide even if its slow.

But windows 95 dont want to install any driver for the 3dfx banshee. i tried several drivers versions for windows 95 and the 1.0 version too. I even tried win98 driver. Windows doesnt recognize the driver at all. It always said that folder contain no driver information for this hardware.

Thanks for answer or help.

I tried my pci 3dfx banshee in dos with my
486 dx4-100mhz with tomb raider and screamer 2 in glide and it works correctly.( both games are playable, even screamer 2 that was a little too slow with my 486 dx2-66, play good enough to be playable on my dx4-100mhz and tomb raider play better than with my dx2-66, stay at 30fps most of time, a few drops to 22fps to 25 fps, nothing major, works great in glide.)

If i cant install any 3dfx banshee driver in win95, i will not use the card in my 486 build at all. I wont keep it for 2 glide dos games. ( i have several others pci cards that in the same 486 era in time, but i was still prefer the banshee, the picture quality is so great vs others pci video cards.

( i tried the voodoo3 again in win95 with my dx4-100mhz instead of my dx2-66, but its the same result, no glide or d3d game at all play good enough to be playable and i'm not surprised. Moto racer 1 and nfs2 runs as bad as my dx2-66. no difference at all with my dx4-100, same bad framerate, not faster, not slower. )

The system requirements for the Voodoo Banshee indicate that you need a Pentium or higher based system to install the drivers. There were reports of the 3Dfx implementing Pentium instructions in later versions of their drivers, but seemed to have been applied to the Voodoo3. I'm not sure if they did the same with the V1, Rush, V2, and Banshee.

Thanks for answer. But i can still install voodoo3 drivers without any problem. The voodoo3 work perfect in my windows 95 even in games with glide and d3d. ( But all games are too slow LoL! )
I tried differents voodoo3 drivers versions, all of them work. But no 3dfx banshee driver work with my 3dfx banshee and i tried a lot of different drivers versions

Perhaps the Banshee is defective? Does it report Code 43?

I think the card is working. I always have this problem, they test new banshees but I always forget what the solution was 😀 Try to install the drivers through the control panel -> add new hardware and search from disk. One of the ways to install the drivers will definitely work. Newer drivers may require directx7 so you can check out some older ones if you don't have one installed.

Let me know if anything helped, if not, maybe I'll be able to check it tomorrow 😀

Have you tried the banshee in another system to make sure the card is working properly?

Thanks guys for answers. Yes the card work perfect in other system. I got drivers installed after i reinstall windows 95. But, i got a windows protection error ar each reboot. I hope its not a incompatibility.

i tried official banshee driver 1.00, 1.02 and 1.03 and same problem. ( No problem with voodoo3 on the same motherboard and the same windows 95 installation. )

i have directx 6.1 installed.

Thanks again for help !

Nothing has work until now, even with directx 7.0a. I lost enough time, i will remove the card for now and put back my trident 9440 or s3 trio64.
( my voodoo3 is in my Pentium III ) If you have ideas i will try again. Thanks a lot !

Just out of curiosity, are you using motherboards that have different chipsets?

I differents motherboard. But only one with PCI and 486 cpu support. ( My banshee and voodoo 3 work perfect with my pentium 233mmx and pentium II 266 and my Pentium III 1000mhz (1126mhz)

This is the PCI and 486 motherboard i used to test my 3dfx banshee and voodoo3:

Luckystar ls486e rev c1.

I'm still disappointed a lot that i cant get working the 3dfx banshee driver in win95 with this Lucky Star motherboard. If anybody have a idea, thanks a lot to let me know. The Voodoo 3 works perfect on this motherboard.
