Hello guys,

I am going back and forth with my memory and forum subscriptions (on k6plus as well), trying to find the final answer of the first hunanity question:

Does or does not a properly keyed powerful and bridged AGP card work on a good (let's say P3B-F) motherboard ???
To work I mean in 2D and 3D also.

My findings (with a 6600gt) stated that in 2D it works, but not in 3D.
That said I did not tested a lot of drivers.

Reading here, I saw some people stating they run successfully even some nVidia bridged cards (no NV40) but how?
Is there a particular driver combination or even a modded one?

I am about to receive a Pny 7600GS with 3.3V key to test again.

Can we reach a final agreement?

Your 3D problems are almost guaranteed to be driver problems.
Later nVidia drivers don't seem to play well with older OS's and games.
In general try to grab drivers that are only somewhat newer then the games you want to play =)

Your post is so serious xD. That card should run with the moded 8x.xx drivers. But those drivers might not work with the games you want to play, nevermind 6 series cards lack features present in gf2-3-4-5 series cards. Just becasue some dude on the internet got a gf 6 or 7 card to run on 98se doesn't mean that every game or even a lot of games work.

Thank you for the replies.
Please do not think about this or that game ok?
Let's not go into the particular case.

It is only a matter of capability here.

Let's keep it simple.
So let's assume that we want to run 3DMark2006 or a 100% compatibile D3D program (or game) on dx9 of course with WinXP.

I know about 56.64 drivers to be the last stable on 440bx, but I saw multiple users who used later drivers.

Please share your experience.

Wouldn't it be simplest to try the card with another motherboard with same OS and same driver version to see if it is issue with the motherboard or the chipset?

Edit: I was actually going to quickly test it with my 440BX motherboard, but unfortunately my Geforce 6600 is only for 1.5V AGP

Can you link to those modded drivers you refer to?

Yeah I've found NV drivers after 56.64 to be trouble with 440BX.

For once, I can add 7x.00 driver series don't play well with Aladdin and 440BX AGP northbridges. Tested with mobos I have (Zida and industrial BCMcom).

Guess I will have to wait a bit and dig myself on finding this combination.
But help would be appreciated from people of this very forum who successfully used any driver above 7x.xx with 440bx and XP (or whant to help).

I read that overheating of the HSI can be an issue for 3D immediate freezing.
Being feeded with 3.3v in this case I see it could possibly be the cause of immediate hang when starting 3D programs.

It is a brainstorming, feel free to share your thoughts.

Ok I am about to start testing with my 7600gs AGP.

Please feel free to suggest driver versions, even modded, to get it work in direct3D, windows XP.

The platform will be a p2b-d 1.06 with 2x Pentium 933mhz @100mhz fsb to minimize problems.

All right.
Here preliminary results.
My platform is a P2B-D with 2x Mendocino 500Mhz. (AGENT_007 suggested me to use Mendocino first)
VGA is a 7600GS AGP.
XP SP3

3dMark2001 has completed but with texture corruption, see screens.
Do not know if this is driver related, I started with the latest available.

Results pretty low.

There are corruptions in these two images.

Switch video card to either 2, 3, 4 or FX 5xxx for a testing.

Cheers,

Great Northern aka Canada.

No offense of course.

Drivers 93.71.
Same texture corruption.

Again a low performance result, even if a bit higher.

It is a texture problem.
Some dx8 features are ok.
Do not know if this is fixable somehow thru nvidia control panel or not.

3Dmark 2003 gives bluescreen after Wings of Glory loading completion (nvdisp.dll error).

Trying to test a 9800pro but it results in no post at all.
One long beep, three short, VGA issue.
The card of course works in another system.
Strangely, even pci vga (5200 and Rage pro) does the same. VGA error.

Any advice?

Partial answer to myself.
The Rage pro works. The FX5200PCI is PCI 2.2 and the P2B-D is PCI 2.1, that is why it won't work.
Don'tknow why the 9800pro is not working, maybe it refuse to work with 3.3V even if it is properly keyed, but I remember I used it on a GA-5AX...

In any case, I think I have reached a final answer for this thread, a sad one.

the problem is not the VGA or the motherboard, it is inbetween.
It is the bridge.
For unknown reason there is no support for HSI bridge from AGP 2X chipsets (like 440Bx or socket7).
I do not know if it is an electrical problem but I doubt it, the 7600GS was happily working and was really cold, no overheating.
It is driver related.

Very sad.

If someone wants to add something, would be welcome.
