A few years ago I tried to replace the cooling in x1650xt with passive. The card was overheating and PC turned off. Today I did something stupid. I cleaned the fan in the 2600xt card and connected the card to make the fan spin. The first time the heatsink was on, but the second time I forgot I took it off and I had the impression that there was smoke near of the computer. I just don't know if it was e-cigarette smoke that I vaped a moment earlier. Is it possible that the 2600xt did not have overheating protection since x1650xt had it?
