Hi all,

This is my first post. I was reading the forum this weekend and I remembered all the dos era ( I am 39 years old )

My goal is to build a 486 dos / w3.11 pc with brand new parts! I have the checkmate 1500 plus which is an ITX/ATX case and I really want to fit the build inside this case.

I found a lot smb 486 but they have issues and the most important one is the sound card. If you know a specific smb that works I would be grateful.
So option 2 is real hardware.
So far I found the Asus PVI-486SP3 brand new. For sound card I can go with the Orpheus.

CPU and ram would be easy but I am not sure yet for vga option and power supply. Any recommendations?

Any modern ATX will do, as long as you don't need -5v (the PVI doesn't need it - I have the same board). There are not a lot of cards which need it either.

An ATX to AT adapter cable will be needed, but they're easy to find.

If you go PCI on the PVI board you've got a wealth of choices: Matrox Millenium II, S3 Trio, Virge, Voodoo 3 to name but a few. All of which are pretty easy to pick up and easily fast enough for virtually any DOS games.

The S3 Trio is probably the cheapest and best-all rounder of the lot, unless you go for a Voodoo, which won't be the greatest of performers on a non-Pentium system.
