I have a tyan s1564 It’s actually pretty snappy but it’s just weird to me to run something at stock speed 🤣.
Right now I have dual 233mmx in it
I have been able to install a k6 2+ 570 in it and run it at 66x6 400mhz but I think the dual pentiums are probably faster
I have 512mb of 60ns ram in it and have figured out the tightest timings it can take
Of my two processor options I’m currently using the dual pentium mmx 233 option
But I’d like to at least overclock them....
The clock gen I’m told maxes out at 66mhz
I’m wondering about using different crystals? Or a different clock gen? But I don’t know much about that or what to order.
I could try and find some 50ns 64mb sticks but that probably wouldn’t do much for me and would cost a chunk.
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get dual cyrix or k6 to work in this board cause it’s a late model smp board not one of those early socket 5 deals.
But I’m open to different processors. Though I believe I already have the two fastest options and I did try a tillamook and a mmx and it only detected one cpu. (Will it only detect one if the cpu id isn’t the same?) the smp pins on tillamook are listed as nc so probably no hope there if I got another one to try.
I’m thinking my best option is a crystal swap. What do you think? Can I get a socket for it and a selection of crystals? Or is there such a thing as a variable crystal?
If I change the quarts crystal on my motherboard will it tell the new frequency on the computer or will it think it’s going the same speed? Does it count the frequency using the RTC?
