So, I have this ET4000 and it has been in my 286 for a few months now and has been working well. However, the other night I turned on my machine and the video is displayed B/W (gray-scale). Very odd.

To confirm isn't not a problem with display, I tried another machine (my 386) and all is working fine. I then reseated the VGA in the 286 (and the socketed chips on the card itself), no change, still B/W.

I then switched to another VGA in my 286 and it working fine, so definitely a problem with the card.

Has anyone experienced something like this and know of a way to solve this?

This is the card:

Hmm. That's very interesting. Thanks for the link.

So, it occurred to me that a while ago I changed my VGA cable, I swapped out the one I was using with what is/was supposed to be a higher quality one. So, but even though they have the same number of pins, there is a difference since putting back the ET4000 and using my previous VGA cable, viola, color there is. 😀

Top cable (old one) with color, bottom cable (new one) B&W.
