Wouldn't hurt to try, but if it works you are definitely losing thermal protection (THERMTRIP pin) - if heatsink comes loose and mainboard doesn't shut off, the die may burn up (but mainboard may still have its own thermal protection and emergency shutdown).
TDO /edit: TDI too/ is used in JTAG and there is chance it may be not needed for standard operation.
