The issue with RSC-G2F-A66-X1 is that it will cover the other PCIe slot on the motherboard. Here's the board's layout: https://www.asrock.com/mb/ULI/939Dual-SATA2/
Using RSC-G2F-A66-X1 will trade the AGP, PCIe x1, and PCIex16 slots for two PCIe x8 slots.

Stick it on an extension cable. https://www.amazon.com/Express3-0-Extension-G … e/dp/B07RDFF2DP

you'll have to mod your case any way.

Hey, look at that! I wonder if the conductor lengths in that cable will cause some sort of problem...

According to some random internet post, the max length would be 40cm for pcie v1 , 30 cm for pcie v2 and 20 cm for pcie v3

Though I have this vague memory that those values are a bit on the short side,
afterall thunderbolt is pretty much a pcie v3 extension and those cables can be longer than 40cm.

edit, did some looking up and pcie v1 seems to have a max cable length of ~10m
edit2: seems to be only 7m probably theoreticaly 10

Interesting. Other than the cable length, do you know if there is any performance degradation of using the riser's onboard bifurcation technology? As it is, I can fully utilise the Samsung EVO 870's bandwidth, at least in mirror mode. If I were to run the x8 RAID with x8 graphics on this x16 port, might the RAID performance drop?

It's no big deal to make a bracket and tap a few holes in my case to mount the riser and a pair of pcie cards. The RAID has no external slot access and USB can use a break-out cable. But not sure if I can justify the cost of the adapter. There's a seller on a two popular platforms asking $200 USD for that Supermicro riser, although a week ago he was selling them for $180. Add the $35 extension cable cost. Add shipping. Convert to CAD. Then there is also the risk of total loss if it doesn't work at all. Perhaps in a few years the adapter will sell for cheap if they aren't all recycled? I bet not many were made.

Yes, there is always a chance it does not work. Then you'll just have to resell it.
Or !
You could try and buy these parts...
one of these
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/156647 … e_x8_gen_3.html
and two of these two
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/156646 … 3_embedded.html
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/156646 … cable_with.html

for a rough total of $4200 or 5250 CAD$ shipping is free over $50.
oh and you'll also have to get a powersupply to power it and preferably a case to put it in
😁

Feipoa is expense sensitive and in Canada does not help due to currency exchange is rather lopsided.

I know this too well since I live in Canada too.

Cheers,

Great Northern aka Canada.

haha, my favourite is the $786 cable - I bet they sell a lot of those!

pentiumspeed: AVICC helps in this regard to some extend, not much on the conversion rate though. Seems like only rising oil prices help in that regard. 'bout time the Canadian economy start to ween off its oil dependence. It is funny to watch the oil price chart overlayed with the CAD:USD chart.

It's a US-based shipping/consignment service offered to vintage computer hardware collectors. This lets me ship all my US bought gear in a single shipment to Canada perhaps once or twice per year. Seems like US sellers usually offer US wide free shipping, so it saves a lot in the end.
