I currently have 3 several H370 systems with 8th Gen i7 and GTX 1080 available to me for ultra cheap. Only issue here is the 1080 drivers..? I suppose I'd need to do virtualization to get XP on that?

As far as graphics go, in XP, I wouldn 't expect to go above D3D 9c.

If you can get those systems for cheap, then do it. If you don't need the 1080 cards, flip them on eBay for a small fortune.

How perfectly pedestrian and uninspiring! A green whitebox desktop board. Thanks for the PDFs. I've had intel boards in the past and like their stability, so big plus. Without going round and round for weeks, this seems to be satisfactory solution. May not be the highest performing board. But it's significantly better than what I'm jamming now.

I rather like the DG43NB's feature combination and 6 USB 2.0 ports. I have some memory and an E6750 already in my parts bin. Cheap.. cheap.. cheap..

The only 2 things I want to address is the OpenGL 2.0 spec. and LPT port.

I want to run some software requiring 3.0 and perhaps in the future 4.0. Speed isn't much a concern , but moreso the instruction set. So some sort of PCIe GPU would be needed.

And I didn't see an LPT parallel-port. I'll assume I can get a card that would give me proper legacy support?

..unless there is a different but similar version of this board, but I don't believe there is.

You can add a PCI LPT port for max 3 Euro

for the performance see the CPU supported , https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel/DG43NB.html

i installed a Quad-core X3220 for 10 euro and runs very well with windows 7

But now i came back to windows XP . ( found on archive.org the original driver https://archive.org/details/intel-dp43tf-driver-disc )

If you need a parallel port, there are many socket 775 boards of that era that have a native port, such as the (G33) ASUS P5K-VM https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ASUS/P5K-VM.html or the (P965) Asrock 4Core1333-Viiv https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ASRock/4Core1333-Viiv.html . The G33 has an integrated graphics controller.
