I'm trying to track down an ISA IDE controller that will work with my 486DX2, but I'm having trouble finding out any info about drive support. My MB has a built in IDE controller but:
1-It doesn't support drives larger than 1024/16/63 (504mb)
2-it doesn't support CD-rom/ATAPI
3-the MB doesn't have VLB slots

I managed to get a caddy cd-rom connected to my SB Pro 2, so that is working but the hard drive is hard limited to 504mb. I tried flashing the XTIDE bios onto an expansion card, and it detects my 4GB HD fine, but OS/2 installation halts with a disk access error. Any suggestions on what to try next?

We can not help without you being more specific about your set up-make/model of system, OS/2 version would be a good start for instance.

I bet it does support ATAPTI cd readers as well. My DecPC 486 with OS/2 v3 Warp onboard vbl IDE controller certainly does. So does my AcerAcross 486DX2/50 system.

There will be updated installation disks for OS/2. The original disks in OS/3 v3 disks had very flakey IDE cd support wereas OS/2 v3 Warp Connect disks were far better at detecting ATAPI cd readers.

There's a glitch in the matrix.

Apparently 32-bit is dead and nobody likes P4s.
Of course, as always, I'm open to correction...😉

The system itself is a Canon Innova 486e, it has what looks like an Acer v6 motherboard. I haven't been able to find too much about it at all. The BIOS has no options for anything other than fixed disks. I tried 5 or 6 different ATAPI drives, all tested good in my P2 system, and none are detected when I use a DOS 6.22 bootdisk with Oak cdrom drivers. My end goal is to install OS/2 W4, which worked with the CD-ROM on the SBPro and the original 400mb disk, and even this 4gb disk when partitioned to 500mb. When I add in the XTIDE bios on an add-in card the W4 installer halts with the hard disk error.
