Firstly sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place, there isn't a dedicated mac hardware section so I thought it more appropriate to post here.

I have an iMac G3 98, and a wallstreet or pismo powerbook (can't remember) as well G3. It turns out that both machines have the same defect, the processor board. I'm sure it's the board because I have other units, which I used the parts to test and come to this conclusion.

I don't want to just have to buy another card as they are rare and expensive. I suspect it may be a simple problem with capacitors, but before ordering new capacitors, I would like to know if anyone has had this experience.

Symptoms:

The powerbook will not turn on, sometimes the green led lights up, and occasionally it works normally (but very slow)

Imac: Turns on, orange light, sometimes you hear the startup sound that stops abruptly.

Thread will be moved, but answering some Qs

PowerBook: look up resetting the power manager, and reseat the CPU daughterboard, try other RAM. Not likely to be caps

iMac G3: failed PAV board, likely caps but could also be the flyback transformer gone bad

Has already been reset, as I explained, I'm sure it's a defect in the processor board, because I took it from other equipment and put it on them, and both worked.

Yes, I tested it with countless memories. iMac has the perfect flyback, I used it a week with another machine's processor board to make sure of that

On the CPU board, there are few components besides the CPU and the vector unit, I could only imagine that they could be the capacitors, since it is very rare for a CPU to have problems

I'll move it to Marvin -> General Old Hardware, I guess - maybe over to Milliways if it's not a good fit here. Moved.

These G3 daughterboards have tantalum capacitors and solid capacitors. Could be cracked ball solder on CPU and chipset due to thermal cycling?
