Hello!

Two years ago i got my hands on Pentium III Compaq Deskpro
Never managed to get it to work, It came without PSU so i took PSU from newer pc. When i booted it up the screen was black without any sounds coming out, all fans was spinning except CPU fan.
I switched PSU, nothing.
Tried to check if the CPU fans are bad, but no, they worked on other machine.
Then i was thinking that it's motherboards fault. Took out ram, and booted up, sound was coming out.
And then i left it.

Last week i got other Pentium III PC - HP Vectra
Operating system for this pc was Xp so i tried to install windows 98 by using usb.
But with my luck i got pc that don't recognize usb trough bios 😒
Then i remembered about Compaq PC and tried to revive it by switching CPU with HP Vectra.
Now Compaq PC finally booted up, got to Xp loading on loop (But that's okay, windows reinstall would be easy)
The biggest problem is that the CPU fan is not spinning at all.
Every other component is recognized by motherboard (Sound Blaster, Nvidia Video Card)

Now when i switched back cpu's, HP Vectra is not booting up too. It's locked up.
I am bit frustrated with these pc's but want to make them work 😁
Don't want to order overpriced pc on ebay.

Thank you!

Just connect the psu fan power leds to tjhe power leads of the fans that do run...

There's a glitch in the matrix.

Of course, as always, I'm open to correction...😉

Oh, you're no fun anymore.

yea, that's normal. You will need to boot from a CD/DVD

Now when i switched back cpu's, HP Vectra is not booting up too. It's locked up.

In this situation, where it HAS worked, but is unstable and is now worse. It sounds like bad caps.

Can you give us a good picture of the caps near the processor area?

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.
