Hi the Vogons,

I hope you are doing well.

sometime ago, I have creat a project for renovation computer. Unfortunately , I couldn't do it.
Or I'm back and very detemine.

My project has several conditions:
-have an acquisition video computer for my consoles and computers.
-play for the Dos generation until vista optimally.
- put the computers in the local network for the game in lan.
-use a network drive to start a video game on any computer.

I have 4 setups:

setup1:

Triple boot (win10, win 7, ubuntu studio).
the computer serve for nextgen video games and the alternative acquisition vidéo computer.

configuration:
motherborad: asus z170 pro gaming
CPU: I7 6700k
ram: 16Go 3200
GPU: gtx 1070

setup2:

Triple boot (win7,win xp pro sp3, ubuntu studio)
The computer is used for the main video acquisition and to play xp video games in an optimal way.

Configuration:
HP z220 workstation
CPU: Xeon E31240
ram: 24Go 1600
GPU: amd filepro V4900

setup3:

Dual boot (win xp/win98le)
The computer serve for play in lan sur video games win xp and to play win98/95 video games in an optimal way.

motherboard: SOLTEK SL-75DRV5
GPU : palit geforce 4fx5600
CPU : AMD athlon AX1800
carte son : creative labs CT4810

setup4:

Win 98le et Dos
The computer serve for play in lan sur video games win 98/95 and to play dos video games in an optimal way.

I have 2 GPU: quadro fx5500 et radeon hd 3850.

My network drive is the wd my cloud home.

For the moment, I am on setup2. I installed my triple boot, win7 sp1 took more than 40 GB of memory, is this normal?
I am looking for a sound card, sound blaster uses eax technology, but I saw that the other technology is better for some games.
I wonder what different technologies have been used in winxp and if a sound card is compatible with all of them?

For the gpu, I can't enable some graphics options in some games. Were there specific cards to activate options during the xp period?

I assume you're referring to disk space. Win7 takes about 20 gb, maybe a little less... Then add in other stuff like hibernation file and system restore points, and yea you could approach 40 gb.

P1: Packard Bell - 233 MMX, Voodoo1, 64 MB, ALS100+
P2-V2: Dell Dimension - 400 Mhz, Voodoo2, 256 MB
P!!! Custom: 1 Ghz, GeForce2 Pro/64MB, 384 MB

Hello,

I have see a website on the installation from win xp on modern systems , I think I'm basing myself on him .

here is the link:
https://www-tenforums-com.translate.goog/gene … pto=nui,op,elem

has anyone ever use these unofficial drivers? Are there any problems they encounter when launching a game?

For upgrade my setup2 , I way buy a sound card sound blaster.

I want a compatibility eax1,2,3,4 and 5. The x-fi therefore seems essential to me.

What is the best model among these?
Titanium Fatal1ty Professional (SB0880) and x-fi (SB0460 )

What is the Difference Between Chip EMU20K1 and EMU20K2?

Mostly it's just EMU20K1 is for PCI cards and EMU20K2 is revised for PCIe.
EMU20K2 also supports more I/O ports, DDR SDRAM memory interface, and a built-in Universal Audio Architecture component. (copied direct from Wikipedia) but none of these really make a difference IMHO.

x-fi (SB0460 )
PCI card based off the EMU20K1 chip

Titanium Fatal1ty Professional (SB0880)
PCIe card based off EMU20K2

Both have the same snr of 109db, only real difference is the SB0880 has toslink connectors.

card sound Titanium Fatality pro and GPU gtx780 lightning

Thank Chinny22 for the Information .

I change the 230w power supply for one lux 550w that I already have . https://aerocool.io/product/lux-550w/

Will the lux not have a problem with my config?

It is possible for me to buy on be quiet pure power 11 600w in amazon warhouse.

Very quick google search says the V4900 needs at least a decent 3oow PSU with other sites saying upto a 500w.
Another very quck google says the z220 comes with a 400w Delta PSU, not quiet but good quality, so you may be ok, only one way to know, give it a try!

Also seems like the z220 motherboard has a 18 pin connector for the PSU you'll need a 18 to 24 pin ATX converter to use off the shelf PSU's

according to my google research I see that the gtx780 has a power recommendation of 600w.
And apparently it needs 2 pcie 8 to power it.
The lux power supply I have only offers a pcie8 and I am afraid that it is not very stable during intense gaming sessions.

what do you think?

The graphics card can work under speed if I power it only with the only pcie 8broche available?
I'd just like to see if the graphics card works.

If you already have the card then you can always try, Quick 5 minute test wont hurt anything.
Worst case it doesn't work then you know for sure you need to upgrade the PSU.

Thats how I started out with this freak of a PC.
My Win7/XP build with 2 CPU 16 thread's, 4 GPU crossfire, 2 PSU build

ahahah this monumental montage is awesome.

I found a power supply at a good price (Seasonic prime 650W 80 + Titanium).

I would like to improve the compatibility of my computer so as not to have any problems with the start win xp and end of period win98 games

As a reminder, my computer runs with a lightning gtx 780.

I have a nvidia quadro FX5500 in stock, my idea is to turn the GPU on and off depending on game compatibility, but I'm afraid for nvidia drivers.

Has anyone tried this kind of maneuver yet?

If so, how did he go about the drivers?
Is the FX5500 quadro a good choice for improving game compatibility including fog table support and shadow buffer stuff?

I come back to you regarding the installation of my GPU, so it is a gtx 780 ligthning, when I install the Nvidia drivers, windows restarts and after the logo of win xp arrives on a blue page indicating an infinite loop problem.
The GPU works well until the installation of its drivers, when I go into safe mode it is well spotted but not on normal win or on GPu-Z.
I have already tried several previous drivers and the problem remains the same.

I use the same power supply. It is absolutely awesome.
The different efficienty especially in idle mode can be felt with your hand at the fan in the rear of the case.
And it has 12 years of warranty.

I am ready to make my next 2 config.
I just got a lot of different cards that can be used as a basis,

GPU:
quadro fx5500, Geforce FX5700 LE, Geforce 7600 GS, Geforce 7600 GT, MVGA-NVG34AM 128MB W / TV DVI, Radeon 9600 pro, 3D prophet 9600, 3D prophet 4000XT, radeon hd 3850

Sound card:
Aztech n270 pci 288, Soundblaster creative Live CT4620

Here are the 2 current configurations:

motherboard: SOLTEK SL-75DRV5
GPU: palit geforce 4fx5600
CPU: AMD Athlon AX1800
soundcard: creative labs CT4810

motherboard: ASUS P2B
GPU: ATI 3D
CPU: p2
sound card: sound blaster AWE64 gold CT4390

As a reminder, my goal is to create a retro room in order to have the best possible gaming experience and maximum compatibility.
You will find my final configuration of the pc win xp, win7 above this post.

Here I would like to tackle a dual boot xp / win98 computer and a win98 / Dos computer

I experienced the win98 era too briefly and was not old enough to build my computer at the time so I don't know much about it. Could you give me advice for the installation and according to you which parts could be suitable for my project?

Thank you for your advice that you give me as well as this site which is a real gold mine in information.
