I have an HP Compaq nc2400 and for the past few years, the only thing I could get to work in the tiny HDD compartment, limited to a ZIF connector (like an iPod) was a Sandisk Extreme CF card (with adapter).
I’ve tried msata SSD drives and adapters, I can’t get them to load properly. Maybe msata doesn’t work with a Core Duo processor?
In summary, I’d like to know (roughly) how long could I get out of a Sandisk Extreme CF card as a boot drive?
It still works fine to this day, having set it up a few years ago. I think the XP paging file is turned off. Ram is maxed out at 2GB, I don’t write much to the drive and it’s always less than half full.

I do know that this HP Compaq nc2400 has an optical drive which means I could install a 2.5” drive adapter, but I do like having a disc drive.
