The CTMOUSE driver isn't necessary within Windows 98. If you insist, here is a thread mentioning a way to use CTMOUSE within Windows: DOS/Windows, Mouse Acceleration and you. However doing this will lose mouse support for the Windows 9x GUI.

The mouse in DOS programs within Windows should normally work without any DOS drivers loaded, seems very unusual that one would need DOS drivers for this.

Since no mouse driver is needed under Win98 this is a moot point, but the ctmouse driver in Phils pack didn't work for me either (under pure MS-DOS 6.22). It's using version 2.0 alpha 4, changed that to version 1.9.1 which does work.

I was assuming that you were running the games within Windows 😜. If starting from "Restart in MS-DOS mode" you should edit DOSSTART.BAT located at C:\WINDOWS to add CTMOUSE.

I had a similar issue with a Gateway desktop motherboard with CTMOUSE 2.0 and had to use MOUSE from Microsoft (consumes more memory but it works) or an older version of CTMOUSE which is 1.9.1 like Sombrero said.

Btw, this "pure" MS-DOS 7.1 doesn't really exist. It's just the MS-DOS component used on Windows 95 OSR2 and 98 with the GUI being stripped out.

I would stash it in c:\windows\command in which case you don't need to.

I second this.

This is the easiest way without messing the PATH environment variable.

Actually, I had to modify my DOSSTART.BAT file with the proper path, otherwise, it would not automatically load.

Version version 1.9.1 seem to work, although the mouse is VERY jittery (tested with EDIT), however on second or third launch of EDIT, it seem ok.

I've had issues at times.The Legacy Mode switch (/L) sorted it out sometimes.

CT mouse is nice becasue its small, it's not without bugs and its not completly compatible, with all games and setup programs. I've had it bug out on me so many times I stick to the MS/IBM mouse.com
