On a related note: "schnelles Schiff" - could we please combine our funds to hire a hit man on the guy who decided to implement the auto-translation in ebay? Yes?

Borderline better deal for four:

Yes, we don't want to transfer by speedboat.

Oh, but they have the one-time useable plastic clamps.

Damn, right - they're out. My Oktek Jaguar V 386-40 board has those. Just wrong.

Thought a moment about a centralized order for n people interested here in Germany/Europe. But ... shipping costs increase linearly with the number of items. 4 items = 45,04 USD shipping, 10 items = 94 USD shipping. What the f...

I once came across this link.

www.peconnectors.com/sockets-pga-cpu-an ... y/hws5040/

thought I had posted it already but search doesn't bring up anything
and I guess since it's from california, shipping will be over the top, if they have any in stock to begin with.

If really interested, I wouldn't trust the auto generated info on ebay, but ask manually about shipping options.
But, it appears, long range shipping is really sensitive to both weight and volume. (I wonder how the people in Shenzhen do that with all the free shipping option, even if those take six weeks...)

Also, you risk getting an answer by a tech company in freedom units. 😜

Have seen them, too. But as you said, shipping will break that thing.
I was once in contact with the support of this company:
https://www.woutersenwouters.be/products/connectors/821832-2
They are from Belgium but the outcome was 60 EUR per pcs + shipping which was ridiculous, aside from that these are plastic latch types.

With ridiculously high prices like that per piece I immediately assume they have nothing in stock.
looking up the part number gives a unit price of $6.75 on another website, which seems more plausible, though still doesn't inspire confidence.

60 is a bit absurd, but in general, with highly specific spare parts, you can't always expect the "retro obsolescence discount". These people get paid for providing these things on demand, not anything like production cost.
And, chances are there is some eight digits industrial machinery out there that uses some legacy tech and its owners will happily pay any amount to keep it running. 😉

I can answer that:
Connection to the CCP. Brother, cousin, brother in law, whatever. China is a highly corrupt country.
So overall they make a loss. But the seller doesn't have to take the loss. Instead the party pays for it.

I see. Yep, seems plausible. Corruption, always great fun. Just ask BASF or RWE.

Still not quite sure what I find more disturbing. Chinese traders exploiting their BS state or those in a Western superpower supplying technical information in blooeygarks and woggamadonks.
