Hey vogoners I am looking for a certain answer on a history matter. What was the first motherboard with PCIe? It isn't on google apparently. Was it good or bad compatibility-wise? Assuming the release date it could have been tested with a Radeon X800 or GeForce PCX 5/6 editions.
We are probably looking at late 2004. We also know that among the first successful chipsets were Intel 915 and Via K8T890 so it would likely be LGA775 or s939.
There is this Tom's hardware thread mentioning Asus K8S-MX and MSI RS480M2 in 2004. Neither of them are Via or Intel based. Considering SiS 760GX is not a PCIe chipset I really doubt it counts at all.
Ideas?
