Hi!

I am looking for a laptop with these specs:

1. A low power (or mobile) intel cpu
2. Floppy drive, usb port, cd/dvd drive, vga port, parallel port, serial port
3. Display resolution 1280*800 or 1600*1200

Can you please suggest me laptop models with these specs?

I have bought one laptop that has some of these specs, but missing others. It's compaq p4 laptop, missing low power cpu(it has p4!) and has wrong resolution 1024*768.

Thanks in advance.

If you need to run OS W98SE, you also need drivers and I'm not sure, that W98SE compatible laptops had a screen resolution of 1280x800, I think they had it up to newer models that no longer support W98SE (missing drivers).
BTW, there's also a Pentium 4M (mobile), I have it in the Dell C840 (with GeForce4 440 Go 64MB), but it's almost as warm as the desktop versions, and the displays were either 1600x1200 or 1400x1050, that's 4:3 not 16:10 as you want.
In the older C810, I have a PIII of 1.13 GHz (Tualatin), but even that didn't have a resolution of 16:10, plus a weaker GeForce2 Go 32MB), which probably wouldn't be able to keep up with the 2001/2002 games.

Try something with the Pentium M, which is both powerful and efficient, and if paired with the decent video card and display you're looking for, you could succeed.

Thank you. True, I also expect it to be Pentium M, from available laptops for sale. The thing is, I am not sure if such laptop exists. Thats why I need exact laptop models with these specs so I can find it better.

My Favorite is an IBM T42 2373 with Pentium M, 15“ 4:3 IPS Panel 1600x1200 and Radeon 9600.

- native and clear 800x600 Gaming
- Drivers for Win9x and Win2k
- fast enough for anything until 2004 up to 2006 with some cutbacks

Epox 7KXA Slot A / Athlon 950MHz / Voodoo 5 5500 / PowerVR / 512 MB / AWE32 / SCSI - Windows 98SE

I got one for my wife.
She is not into retro stuff (not like me, at least). But she have some early 2000's games she wanted to play.
She wanted a laptop to be able to play from the couch.

The key points :

  • Low power CPU. No P4, more something like Pentium M / Core solo / Core Duo
  • Dedicated GPU
  • DVD
  • Win 98/Me/2k/XP (no Vista)

I found a really neat Toshiba Satellite M40X-299. For the crazy price of 8€ + 10€ shipping.
https://www.ebay.fr/itm/255534659820

It comes with :

  • PentiumM 1.6Ghz
  • 1Gb DDR
  • Radeon X600SE
  • DVD Drive
  • NO charging cable, but i already had a universal one at home.

It's not a super powerful gaming PC, but you can totally play games from that era at medium settings.
And for 18€ shipped, it's hard to beat that price.

I wanted to change the 20yo thermal paste and clean the dust from the fans. The laptop was very easy to disassemble. Each screw hole show the screw length. So no errors possible.
It runs quite cool, even on the most demanding game she plays. (Alexandra Ledermann 8, a Horse/Point and click adventure game from late 2007. Well... not Crysis, but still)

"Hello, my friend. Stay awhile and listen..."
My collection (not up to date)

it's unlikely that you'd find a laptop with a 16:10 display and a floppy drive, if anythig some model with interchangable drive bays that is compatible with older drives but then you'd lose the CD drive.

Thank you. I was too thinking that way now. Can I really change cd drive with floppy drive? I really only need cd drive to install operating system. Or maybe if usb floppy is used, can I boot from it? And use just as refular A: ?

If these are possible then I can drop that requirement. In that case, is there laptop model with all the above specs, but only not floppy? 1280*800 screen, usb port, parallel port, low power cpu, vga port, serial port, cd drive?

may I ask why you're so fixated on a 1280x800 resolution?

It's integer scale of 320*200, not aspect corrected I understand, but i like it that way. Dos games look very good to me.
The thing is, my old laptop from 2008 is core2duo 2ghz, 2gb ram, 1280*800.
I always wished it had paralel port, floppy, and lower power cpu, because in dos, which i used a lot, it run hot at max power. Also that laptop has other broken parts here and there. Now I am looking for a "better version" of it.

Wow, nice, I was fixed on equal scaling for some reason. Thanks! This expands possibilities. Original post changed. Any more laptop models for that, besides the one above?

Though my 1280*800 had also perfect scaling with text mode, which it did 640*400. It has really sharp text. 1600*1200 slighty fails only on x direction, but not big problem i guess.
