Laptop is Compaq Evo N1020V, p4, 512gb ram. I am looking for audio driver to work with windows98se. Tried many but all failed. Can someone please suggest driver that actually works?
Here s info from xp, which recognizes it and works without any extrnal driver:

Info at drivers.eu, that I also tried, but it fails by saying that no codec is installed.

From some searching: If that has the ALI 1535 chipset then there are no Win98 drivers for the ADI soundmax Codec to work with. Only Win2000 and XP.

If it has a Intel ICH 2, 3 or 4 southbridge then there are Win98 Audio drivers for the ADI soundmax Codec as well as 2000 and XP from HP

Without a working sound in win98 I am limited to using xp, which I don't like.

I was attempting the same thing as you and found no driver for Windows 98 that worked at first. I did manage to find one. The Analog Devices Soundmax version 5.12.01.3920 works with the Compaq Evo N1020v. I found it on Driverguide. It is called sp27092.exe or q2aud02us13.exe i think. (i was messing with a lot of files, so unsure which one worked in the end. )
