hi there,
ive got a gigabyte GA-696LX rev 1D motherboard here and various p2/p3 cpus im trying out in it..

i have only just started testing this board.. but it posts and seems ok..

when i put a 350 p2 in it it shows as a 233 ... that is good and to be expected.. the board had jumpers set to 266 (4x) but seems to be ignoring the jumpers and just doing what the cpu is locked to.. no complaints.. but next

i tried a 450 p3 in it and it shows as 374mhz and wont do a memory count.. (should show as 300mhz)..halts
500 p3 wont even start..
550 p3 shows as a 250mhz.. wont do memory count ... halts

changing jumpers on the board has no effect, same result..

anyone else ever seen a problem like this?

the only other option would be a p2 cpu im guessing..

Internet doesnt know what GA-696LX is, because of a typo (GA-686LX). 696 sounds like VIA chipset (apollo pro 133 694)
not only update, but binary editing by scary russian piece of software first http://www.rom.by/articles/BP/index_english.htm

oops ... yeah GA-686LX ... thats the one..

the gigabyte site has an updated bios available (dated 2001) which is 4 years newer than the 1997 bios that is on it at the moment...
worth a try, whats the worst that could happen 😉

If its the right bios for the right board everything should work fine as long as you can boot the system properly.
Even if it bricks itself you can restore it with a Eprom Programmer.
