I've ordered an LED board for my early model M that doesn't have the cutouts for the lights, but does have the connector on the controller board.

(I'll be using an external box for them, I don't want to alter the keyboard in any way)

I'll need to make my own cable for it though. Which pin is ground and which LEDs do the other three pins control?

Sorry do not have a Model M but using a good Digi ohm meter: the AT plug shield is ground. Measure from there to the pins to find ground.
The 3 led + you can label after figuring out which is which. They should be num lock, cap lock and scroll lock. Pins Might even be in that exact order left to right..
