Hi everyone,

I have found an old IBM PS/1 2011 and in was working great after i moded the Dallas battery. Yesterday i started earing the hard drive making scratching noises, like a wheel without oil and then the pc froze and when i restarted i got error code 1701 - “HDD controller error”. The HDD still spins and its led flashs 4 times every 10 seconds or so. When i go to the configur file the hdd shows as installed but c:\ is alocated to the rom of the computer.

The hard drive itseld is a WDL-330P and i have recaped it. It has very few bad sectors and until yesterday it ran great, sometimes better then other more modern hard drives that i have on a Pentium III machine.
I tried to run the diagnostics disk (http://oldcomputer.info/keep/c/museum/pc/PS1_2121) but when i run the command "diagns" the computer frezes.

Anyone has any ideas on how to revive this hdd or try to swap it for another thing?

Thank you for your help.
