I believe they're usually held on with double sided tape. Back in the olden days people like to steal them, using a knife or a thin flathead screwdriver. I don't recommend that because it could cause damage to the plastic and/or the badge itself. If you have any of those plastic tools for disassembling cellphones and laptops, it might be worth a try.
