So I finally got the recovery CD to work with a non-supported CD-ROM drive after messing with a few PCMCIA drives and tinkering with the system files. I pulled the HD and created an image in WinImage identical to new, or at least post-restore. I hope this can help anyone looking for the same clean install with all the original drivers. It's pretty similar to the other method of just copying the contents of the password protected ZIP files and dropping those on a system formatted drive.
