Hi all,

any sence to buy 3Com EtherLink III 3C509B-TP for 386 build with Windows 3.11? The goal is to get connected to home network (via Samba proxy). Or look for something else?

I have these cards and their variations in all my retro machines. They work very well and have been very easy to set up and configure and I have not experienced any problems with them either in DOS and Win3.x

I second this.

The Etherlink III is being auto-detected by WfW 3.11, too!
So there's no separate driver package needed.

Unless you want to have the diagnostic/setup software, of course.
It can configure the boot ROM socket, for example. Or enable/disable the transceivers.

I third that 😀
Just finished installing one in a 286.
Make sure to run the configuration tool to disable PnP and set the IO address.
I had some issues with it conflicting with my XT-IDE, so I had to run the configuration once from a floppy so it will change the base address.
From there on, it was smooth sailing. using mTCP to connect to my ftp server and running the ftpsrv on the 286 itself for uploading file.
Love it.
