Hi all

Just repairing a soyo 486 motherboard. Due to battery leakage it was reporting a keyboard error at post - that's fixed or at least i think so. Now it posts to pressing F1 to continue or Del to setup.

However when attaching a compaq keyboard with a serial connector (it's serial on the board) when I press any key it double beeps on a single key press and doesn't register a key press, so I can't F1 or Del.

It sounds like a keyboard lock is on perhaps? Do compaq keyboards only work with Compaq PCs perhaps? Further motherboard damage that might cause this?

Any help would be appreciated. I don't really want to buy another keyboard if that's not the issue. unfortunately I don't have another PC that's accepts serial to test it on.

Thanks!!!!!!

Please post a picture of the repaired part of the board. That'll help us count out the possibility you missed something.

Yes please post a picture of the motherboard.
Curious what you mean by serial keyboard as no Soyo 486 motherboard I ever saw has a "serial" connector for the keyboard, most all are classic AT or PS2 type I ever saw.

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun
