I bought this strange FX 5200 https://www.ebay.com/itm/394274483265 and was refunded because it doesnt work.

However since its a free seemingly almost-working FX 5200 PCI version I was hoping to get it working.

Now- I can get it to boot and nvflash sees it, but anytime I try to flash a BIOS to it, I either get a black screen or artifacts where I can barely make out the screen and then the comptuer immediately shuts off when Windows tries to load.

From my research it seems it might be one of those unlicensed Chinese knock-off cards? However that seems to only be FX 5200's that are advertised and flashed with an FX 5500 BIOS.

This BIOS has the VENDOR and BOARD_ID completely zeroed-out so I assume it was just a bad BIOS flash.

I tried every PNY FX 52o0/5500 and NVIDIA 5200/5500 BIOS from what seems to be a russian backup of x-drivers.com https://catalog.xdrv.ru/bios_firmware/video_c … 00/5281?m=104.1 (for example). I get 404s from x-drivers.com when trying to download from there. Unfortunately none of these drivers work, either black screen or artifacts. I tried the PNY BIOS since I think PNY was the only company that made a PCI version of this card. I saw that maybe EVGA did as well, but it looked considerably different.

One thing I noticed is on the VGA BIOS screen I can see it reporting 64MB of RAM which is odd. I've tried using RVBEDIT and NIBITOR, but there doesn't seem to be an area to switch RAM detection. I've also tried downlclocking the RAM and Memory to no avail.

I also tried a lot of BIOSes from whatever site serves these http://campahunta.free.fr/Downloads/ROMs/nvha … 00_64Mb.rom.zip, I can't seem to find the parent site for some reason. Same results.

Questions:

  1. Why am I able to sometimes see an artifacted-output that reports 64MB RAM?
  2. Does anyone have any suggestions or a better BIOS to try?

Thanks!

EDIT: Here is a link to the BIOS that is currently on the card if anyone that knows more about BIOS tinkering wants to take a look and see what could be wrong.

EDIT2: Here is a 7zip of the PNY and NVIDIA BIOSes I tried as well from the russian mirror of x-drivers.com.
