Most likely it is just a worn out card and therefore not stable on your VIA motherboard. VIA chipsets were quite common back then so I find it unlikely that it wouldn't be stable on one when new.

I thinking like you, but some people above, think differently)

I need to add something to this topic. Put a PCI card like Virge or Matrox or Trio, whatever and combine it with V2 that doesn't work. My Diamond Monster 3D II wanted to work only with Mystique and Virge back days! only intergrated i815 (agp 4x) later on was able to work with my V2 and nothing else. MX2 400, MX4 MX440, Savage4, TNT2 refuse to work. Sadly I don't remember which mobo I was using.

Don't give up on those cards, pair it with PCI cards, not AGP.

Well... I miss 80/90s ... End of story

I never had issues when pairing a Voodoo2 with AGP cards such the S3 Trio3D/2X, nVidia TNT2 and GeForce4 on a motherboard with 440ZX chipset. If anything, mine was built by InnoVision.

Lastly, the OP tried with a S3 Trio64V2/DX PCI video card without success on that Gigabyte motherboard. 🙁

I am not sure if you tried this, but do you have a 2D PCI card to test with instead of AGP?

Yes sure, I tried s3 trio64v2+

VIA C3 Nehemiah 1.2A @ 1.46 GHz | ASUS P2-99 | 256 MB PC133 SDRAM | GeForce3 Ti 200 64 MB | Voodoo2 12 MB | SBLive! | AWE64 | SBPro2 | GUS

3Dfx didn't make their own boards until V3 times after buying up STB. First and second gen Voodoos come in a bunch of varieties. Some are manufactured closer to the reference design, some vendors took liberties one way or the other. I'm not surprised that the OP may have found a card that "just doesn't work" with his board/video card combo and that another one does.

[Install Win95 like you were born in 1985!] on systems like this or this.
