VOGONS

Hi,
I have a doubt about the benchmark score I get in Quake 2, on this build with:

  • CPU: Intel Pentium II 400MHz
  • RAM: 128MB SDRAM
  • Video: NVidia Riva 128ZX + 3Dfx Voodoo2
  • Audio: SoundBlaster Live! CT4670
  • OS: Windows 98

With 640x480 resolution, 3Dfx OpenGL, texture and sound maxed, running:

timedemo 1
map demo1.dm2

gives me ~59/60 FPS, but on some old post I found (dated late '90s) it says it should give me ~80FPS.
Is it normal?

P.S. Don't remember if I installed the MiniGL drivers: I'll check later

The days I played Quake2 on a Riva128 are long gone so I don't remember the driver details but that 60fps is very suspicious- isn't it the vsync frequency...?

Shame on us, doomed from the start
May God have mercy on our dirty little hearts

Yeah, vsync was enabled on the Voodoo2 😁

I didn't notice it because it can be disabled through the Voodoo2 OverClock menu (FastVoodoo drivers), which I had not installed.

I installed it, disabled vsync both for Direct3D and Glide and now the benchmark is giving the expected result.
