1 - clear the pads with solder wick , that is a missing cap used for the soft start func of the buck converter controller ( 0.1uf) , get it from a dead board .
4 - use solder wick to clean the pads
2 - remove the second purple cap , use solder wick to clean the pads , check for short again. If is still there go to step 3.
3 - remove the coil from the board , use solder wick to clean the pads , check for short again. You should have short to ground only on 1 side of the coil . Depending on the side , i will guide you further.

Thanks for the guidance. I see the missing cap now. I'll likely order one to ensure it's the correct value. If you have a mouser link that would really help

I removed the second purple cap and cleaned the pads with wick, still seem to have the short between the +12v and the GND. I'll remove the coil next and update

Use a digital caliper or some tool to give me the length and the width from one around it , and i'll give you a link.
