I'm curious about something. My Compaq Presario 5170 has an onboard ATI Rage LT Pro that has an empty memory expansion slot. The manual calls for in-house p/n 327591-001, which is this. But some ATI cards of the same vintage have their own memory expansion slots that appear to be the same form-factor, such as this.

Would it be possible to use the same memory expansion module used on a Rage card on the motherboard of my Compaq? Haven't found anyone else online exploring this particular thing yet. The Compaq manual does list both 2MB and 4MB expansion modules as compatible here.

Normally you should match the part number of the module to the one printed on the card. I think there are a few cases where you can mix and match, but ATi in general had a pretty bad habit of re-using connectors on upgrades that had completely different pinouts. At least, this is my experience with their Mach64GX upgrades.
