I have a Microsoft Sidewinder controller that connects via gameport.
If I connect it to an AWE64 ISA card, it works fine.
If I connect it to a SB Live or SB Audigy it simply is not detected, in the control panel it always shows as "not detected"

I am on 98SE

The gameport on both cards works because a midi file is playing on my connected roland

Any ideas?

Hmm maybe this might help: https://www.techguy.org/threads/solved-sb-liv … snt-work.93174/
Certain SB Live drivers cause issues with Joystick port.....

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor.

I remember having "fun" with Sidewinder setup but I think that was just in XP. In that case, you would want to make sure no Creative or Sidewinder drivers were installed. Just plug in the card and the controller.

See these threads too for more 98-oriented advice:

I have tried both versions of the VXD drivers featured here on vogons, plus also an Audigy card. The Sidewinder driver is the 3.0

I am trying for fun to run Win98 on a downclocked X58 pc, surely there are speed problems judging from the other threads

The controller is a Sidewinder Force Feedback
