Earlier thread on this topic: Re: Gateway 2000 Destination drivers (dead FTP)

Recently acquired this massive thing as part of a large lot of computers. It's unlike anything I've ever worked on before. And from my internet research appears to be at least somewhat rare with no obvious drivers available. I know there is at least SOME proprietary Gateway software at work here because it's present in Control Panel (Gateway Desti Vu), and utilizes and interactive screenshot of the back I/O panel.

Mine had the original HDD inside and I was able to log in to Win98, some things I noticed:

-Apparently either doesn't utilize DirectX or DXDIAG is just inaccessible for some reason. Windows throws up "cannot find dxdiag" error.

-A bunch of yellow bangs in device manager. (probably because the CMOS battery died years ago)

-It's using the STB Video Rage card for windows acceleration, so I guess the PowerVR card only kicks in for 3D?

What I'd like to do is figure out if there is some way of extracting the relevant drivers and software from the old HDD so I can make a new Win98 installation on a modern storage medium so the computer can be restored and sold. And to post that software online so that anyone else who finds a Destination can restore their computer.

The other Vogons member who made the earlier thread was in need of drivers that may very well be present on this hard drive. I've imaged the HDD and uploaded it to Google, even if we can't extract the drivers this image might at least make their PC usable on some level.

1) You can use my driver-pack from here for STB Video Rage card - #freshmeatrecovery - Brooktree videocards abandoned multimedia monsters
direct link - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CNrWP01Sd1MJ … iew?usp=sharing
Its universal and support Win95-98 and DirectX unto 6.1
2) PowerVR and Soundscape VIVO is generic - take drivers from VOGONSDRIVERS
3) I will review my archives maybe I have something from Gateway2000 FTP 😀

Need help? Begin with photo and model of your hardware 😉

Curious the HD image is a FreeDisk *.pmfx and what version ? Anyone who wants to help/extract/use the files from the image needs to know the app and version you used....

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

It'll only kick in if:
- Direct3D, if it's enabled in its panel in display properties, otherwise the Rage's 3D will be used. Both have their strengths and weaknesses (in 1st gen 3d though, it's more different weaknesses)
- SGL, for specific PowerVR-supporting games, like Unreal

Sorry, this was my first time making a hard drive image. I used Disk Genius 5.4.6.1441 x64 pro.

I also got this archive.org link from a friend:
