quick question... does it matter which kind of tape I put in these or will it just format the magnetic tape the way it wants?
because I have one 120meg and one 250meg drive and two tapes of unknown origin... both drives will not touch either tape
One of the tapes says 3M MC 3000 XL 680MB TAUMAT Format, when I try it it gets unwound. I opened it and rewound it manually and then I saw the tape does not seem to have the tape end markers... so maybe it is too new
The other one says Maxell MC 3000 XL QUIC 3010 Formatted, and there is no information about the capacity on it, but it has the stamped out tape end markers. It does not get unwound but it just says tape error.
So I have no clue if the tapes are just wrong or if both drives are broken?
capstan feels fine, tapes feel fine, rubber band feels fine and it spools just fine upon insertion
