Hi,
I wasn’t sure whether to post here or in the Video section as this question goes to both.

I have the Dell mentioned in the subject line, but cannot find the CPU/Socket specs as I think that will play a role in upgrading the included Gforce 256 32mb 4x AGP graphics card. I do have a trouble shooting guide that lists specs, just not the CPU other than to say it’s a Pentium III running at 133 MHZ externally. The chip set is Intel 82820 AGPset, bus width of 64 bits. Expansion bus is PCI 2.2 @ 33 mhz, AGP 2.0 @ 66 or 133 mhz. System clock is 133 MHz.

Because I am limited to an AGP 4x slot, I was wondering which is the best choice for a graphics card upgrade understanding that Windows 98 SE (which I am running) games of the time, say mid 90’s to early 2000’s, are what I’m aiming to run, at the best resolution and highest settings possible. I realize that some or many of the games will not benefit as they are CPU intensive, but just want the video to be as fast as the system will allow. I think, but I’m not 100%, that a gforce mx 400 would be a possible candidate and I think it ran under windows 98. Maybe even a Gforce 3 ti xxx. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Hey ,anything up to geforce fx 5900 / ati 9800 series will go . It's only matter if your psu could handle extra power to run those cards.

DOS: 166mmx/16mb/Y719/S3virge
DOS/95: PII333/128mb/AWE64/TNT2M64
Win98: P3_900/256mb/SB live/3dfx V3
Win Me: Athlon 1700+/512mb/Audigy2/Geforce 3Ti200
Win XP: E8600/4096mb/SB X-fi/HD6850

According to tech powerup you're right , but truth is it will work both agp 4x/8x . As for psu you must be sure that power rails give enought power
