Hi,

I'm trying to get a tualitin 1.2GHz celeron to run in a slotket on an MSI 6119 440bx based P3 motherboard.

The chip is a tualitin 1.5v 1.2GHz 100MHz FSB part.

I have 2 of the chips and about 4 different slotkets
I have modded the slotkets as attached (https://web.archive.org/web/20170829114242/ht … /reads/MSMG.htm) though not the voltage pins as that doesnt seem to be needed (see below)

The board fails to POST. POST card just shows -- --

With coppermine CPUs, they boot and work fine including overclocking.

I've checked the vcore voltages on the slotkets test points and the CPU is receiving the 1.5v required (even though the board shouldnt support it!)
One the slokets has manual voltage controls down to 1.8v and I have tried that too just in case - again I get 1.8v as expected.

The CPUs definately work as I have another socket 370 tualitin capable board and the post and run fine in that.

Would the BIOS prevent a tualitin working? I have the last official bios update installed - it does seem to recognise my pentum 3 933 though it doesnt correctly report my coppermine celeron 1Ghz but it still boots and posts fine.

Is there anything else that I am missing that would stop it booting?

Thanks

Then in there you can find compat.htm which has an MSI section with the MS-6119.
It says:

please check first if your mainboard have a blue sticker with letter "C" located in the I/O chip. If yes, you can upgrade to Intel Coppermine/Tualatin CPU with a SLOT-T adapter. (The I/O chip is located beside the Primary IDE connector). If your motherboard does not have a blue sticker, please contact with Tech Support.

that is really about if coppermines will work or not and implies i. that if coppermines will, tualatins should.
I have 2 working coppermines on the boards and 2 tualitins that I cant get to work

Just looked it up for your information, for what it is worth. I don't have this MSI board myself.

you could try setting fsb to 66MHz, if you have means of flashing bios chips outside of the board you can also try Bios Patcher http://www.rom.by/english.html
rom.by suggests different connection for AK4 http://www.rom.by/articles/S370/_english_index.htm and shorting G35 - G37

thanks, I'll give the 66MHz FSB a go.
I tried the alternative AK4 wire but without success.

I dont have a programmer but was thinking about buying a new eeprom and hot-swapping it into the board and flashing a modded bios image. Just didn't want to risk that if people knew that the bios wasn't the issue.

I haven't tried the g35-g37 link though - only seems mentioned on that site but will give that a try as well.

It was the g35-g37 short that did it!
Did do the bios parcher update first as it seemed lower risk but still - - on POST card. Gives my CPU the right names though which is nice

Went for the g35-g37 short and started right up!

Just stress testing it now 😀
