The best would be Ti4800 - it's AGP8X based Ti4600, but not Ti4800SE which AGP8X based Ti4200. There are also Quadro cards based on Ti chipsets, but prices vary.

ATI had 8xxx and 9xxx series cards in that time. Best is 9800PRO/XT but finding one in good condition is a matter of luck these days.

Some really like period correct parts put together so newer and better card aren't an option.

Requests are also possible... /msg kixs

Yeah have already read about the 9800pro cards. They are supposed to be really but hard to find in good condition like you said because of the over heating issues they had. Other cards of the ATi 9000 series might be a option as well.

I will also take a closer look at the radeon 8500 which could a nice alternative to the Nvidia cards.

Ah, the SE is the 8x Ti4200. It had me confused every time someone mentioned a Ti4800 being an 8x Ti4600, since I only remembered the 4200 version, ie the SE ... 😀

Please use the "quote" option if asking questions to what I write - it will really up the chances of me noticing 😀

The ti4800 SE is a ti4400 + AGP 8x.

Thanks for letting me know as well. The different desiginations of the gf 4 series can be indeed rather confusing.

According to a couple of posts ago, as well as Wikipedia, I was kind of wrong there, too ... 🤣

Here an interesting review dealing with the ti4xxx family:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOE20R524wA

Thanks a lot for the video. That was really interesting. The GF 4200 seems to be a amazing card for sure.

I think I will go with the gf 4200 due to good a avaibility, price and performance.

Sorry for bringing back the old topic. Like I said I am going with the gf 4200 and will pull the trigger in the next couple of days.

Was just reseaching about the gf 4 cards on ebay and the price difference between gf 4 cards is rather high.

The cheapest one would be some gf4 cards made by medion while cards from more kown manufactures like Gainward, Asus and so forth cost more.

Does anyone here has some experience with cards from medion? Good or bad impressions?

If I have too I do not mind paying more but I also would not be mad if I can save few Euros.

But in the end the quality of the card is my main priority.

From what I remember, most Medion hardware was manufactured by MSI, and then used in OEM PCs which were sold by several German retailers. It shouldn't be too bad, but some of their cards tend to be on the cheaper side, and even come without a DVI port. If you plan on using an LCD monitor with your setup, avoid those.

One thing to note, if you want better compatibility, get an older AGP 4x version of the Ti4200. Those can use 30.82 drivers while the newer AGP 8x versions cannot. This makes it a bit easier to run games like Need For Speed: High Stakes, but there are workarounds for newer cards too.

PC#1: Pentium MMX 166 / Soyo SY-5BT / S3 Trio64V+ / Voodoo1 / YMF719 / AWE64 Gold / SC-155
PC#2: AthlonXP 2100+ / ECS K7VTA3 / Voodoo3 / Audigy2 / Vortex2
PC#3: Athlon64 3400+ / Asus K8V-MX / 5900XT / Audigy2
PC#4: i5-3570K / MSI Z77A-G43 / GTX 970 / X-Fi

That's why I have some cheap 5200 in my builds. Too bad I have to use much newer drivers then.
And I don't really consider this topic as old.

Thanks for the info. about Medion and the info bout the driver as well. That's very good to know.

@Disruptor Thx for your answer as well. And true calling the thread old was a bit over the top 🤣.
