Is it possible to run under dos quake at 640X480 with s3 vrige DX. I have tried it on different s3 virge dx cards also with bioses that support VESA 2.0 and then with TSR S3VBEFIX. No matter what I do it always falls back to 320x200. Maybe I need to set something in the TSR S3VBEFIX for this or can quake not run in 640X480 on an s3 virge dx?

640x480 and 640x400 are SVGA. Besides the aspect ratio of 640x320 is 4:2, what kind of monitor are you using?

So what is the issue? You have to press D on the selected resolution to become default.

I mean in the DOS Benchmark Pack from PHILSCOMPUTERLAB. If I press the e there to run quake on my s3 virge dx in 640x480 it turns it in 320 x 200 can this be solved on my s3 virge dx 4mb. The s3vbefix also doesn't help to fix this or is there something to do in the s3vbefix? I have an s3 virge dx card with VESA 2.0 in the bios. The NVIDIA Riva 128, Tseng ET6000 and the Matrox Millennium G200 do this well in the same PC. Is there a possible to solve this also with s3 vige dx 4MB?

I've also had an issue running the Quake 'high' mode from the benchmark tools on a 4mb Virge DX.

I don't know the reason for it - perhaps the VESA mode available from the Virge/DX rom is not quite what Quake wants? The card can definitely do 640x480 no problem - the high Res pcplayer demo works fine, for instance.
