I seem to have a problem with the original bios chip on a PVI-486SP3. I can get a chip but have precisely ZERO success writing any bios that will actually work. Is there a business around that can write chips?

Please elaborate on how are you trying to program the new bios. There are many combinations. What techniques, equipment, software and what chip are you using.

Edit: what bios file are you programming? What error are you getting?

There are two jumpers on the PVI-486SP3 motherboard that must be enabled in order to program the flash ROM - JP32 & JP33.
Makes sure that both are in the 1-2 position. You can also refer to the manual for more guidance.

However, what could also be a problem is that you have an older chipset revision (the A4 revision). The newer BIOS versions are not compatible with the older chipset revision.
Refer this page: https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/asus-p … 86sp3#downloads and the "BIOS Info" document.

I have a Willem V5 running off Win XP. I get buffer errors trying to write or erase. I can clear buffer and skip 0xff and still get errors. Erase gives 0x0000000 error. The one i have been able to write and verify is no good, not even beep codes. I original chip was broken so i cant flash on board.
