Is your system using a VIA chipset with an AGP graphics card by any chance? There's a known bug with certain VIA chipsets which halves AGP performance under Win98. Also, using more than 2GB RAM cripples Win98 on some chipsets, including the Intel P35 which I'm using.

Otherwise, I don't really see how a Core 2 CPU can be slower than a Pentium 4, assuming both are running at similar clocks.

I had massive issues with PCIe 6800 GT with every driver I tried on Win98SE which led me to conclude NVIDIA 6x.xx - 8x.xx drivers sucked hard. I had issues even under Win2k. Only 93.71 under WinXP worked well with almost everything.

Meanwhile ATI X700 has been chugging along just fine under Win98SE, even though those cards have their own shortcomings too.

Yeah Ive seen that but I cant seem to get the GF 6200 I have working.

I did the team red thing the first time around, I was wanting to use team green this time.

Its not a 7600GS its a 7100GS.
Its been a couple of weeks since I was messing about with it... But the idea is the same.

Like I said I think its super situational to get Win98 to work properly on a 775 board because most of them dont work properly.

S775? By default, the modded X58 drivers are excellent, they contain the appropriate ones. But this is only the base, RyZen/7900xx is also excellent, obviously the secret is to install 98 properly. It is a bit complicated, but here, in the domestic retro topic, I have already explained in detail what, why and how.
The correct routine had to be present from 1998 to the present day, obviously a retired Win98 expert knows that.

X58 is way more appropriate:
1) Floppy support
2) Full legacy CSM
3) True PCI
4) Access to dISAppointment on some motherboards.

Of course, the X58 is a better friend to the W98, I'm only motivated by the challenge of even newer machines.
