It's a ..... 'Mook Match! Shades of ROTT deathmatch mode 🤣
Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.
Sold my MMX 266 long ago, wish I hadn't... but that was a different time 😀
Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun
Im in! Just need to onstall a OS first on my tillamook system!

Hmm ...my 503+ (rev 1.2A) will do 2.0 v iirc (it is a 1.9v cpu) so it may work ok on it....what do you think ? what board would you recommend ?

Sounds worth a try. With mods it seems to be able to work on most boards that I have tried as long as you hit 1.9-2.1v
They specced the I/O at 2.5v IIRC but it doesn’t seem to mind 3.3v I/O
I am not much of an overclocker, and AFAIK Tillamook is clock-for-clock the same as a normal MMX, but anyways. Want to do something with it.
CPU: SL2Z4 rated 266 MHz https://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SL/SL2Z4.html
CPU Wire mods: L2 cache enable, VCC2DET grounded
Motherboard: Chaintech CT-5RSA0, ALi Aladdin V Chipset. As mentioned here: Smallest Socket 7 Motherboard
Graphics: NVIDIA Quadro4 100 NVS PCI, 64MB DDR, Passive, Stock clocks. https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/quadro4 … 0-nvs-pci.c1461
Memory: 1 stick of 128MB SDRAM. Did not tune the settings.
Storage: 8GB SD Card on IDE adapter.
OS: Windows 98-SE with DirectX 7.0, NVidia tweaked omega drivers v1.4403. I think it matches the normal v44.03. Only the 98-SE default chipset drivers.
200 MHz, at 100 MHz FSB, 1,9 Volt -> 1286 3DMarks2000
300 MHz, at 100 MHz FSB, 2,0 Volt -> 1564 3DMarks2000
350 MHz setting did not post at 1,9 Volt, and I did not attempt any other Voltage. For 300 MHz I had to raise to 2,0 Volt to complete the benchmark.
--> ISA Soundcard Overview // Doom MBF 2.04 // SetMul
Woohoo, reigning champion! That Quadro NVS might be a toughie to beat, even with a better CPU clock. If nobody was gonna do a serious run I was gonna run my thinkpad tonight with software rendering for all of the 200 points I could have claimed made me the guy to beat 🤣

350 mhz unstable is unusual.
Was this 3.5x x 100?

The next best thing I have are AGP versions of the Gf2 TI / Gf4 Ti4200 / Gf 6200 / Radeon HD3450. But normally the only AGP card I ever dare to use with such ALi Super-Socket 7 boards is the Voodoo 3.

Yes 100 MHz FSB. It was not unstable. Just no post, screen did not come up. But I just tried it again and look 😀

350 MHz, at 100 MHz FSB, 2,0 Volt -> 1626 3DMarks2000
It should do 4x 100mhz pretty effortlessly
Do the 4x mod
Sphere478 wrote on 2023-10-20, 01:56:It should do 4x 100mhz pretty effortlessly

Good to hear it can do that. Maybe I will do the mod, but:
The CPU scaling seems to diminish in 3DMark2000.
200 -> 300 MHz good jump.
300 -> 350 MHz underwhelming.
Anyone with a faster graphics card working on Super Socket 7 will surely beat the score.
Then, when I solder the 4.0x multiplier mod will I loose some of the the lower multiplier settings? Currently the Tillamook has a nice set of multiplier options: 2.0x / 2.5x / 3.0x / 3.5x.
--> ISA Soundcard Overview // Doom MBF 2.04 // SetMul
All supported multipliers should work but some boards may need mods to work properly.
The 4x mod will act as a bf2 pulled up on boards that don’t support bf2 pull down. In that case you could add the jumper for bf2 on the board or use a tweaker instead of the surface mods
gerwin wrote on 2023-10-19, 20:13:200 MHz, at 100 MHz FSB,

I don’t mean anything like that, but these are good results for the P1 MMX 233.
For 100*3 you will have to increase the voltage to 3~3.3V.
But that's not what's expected of Tillamook.
Aopen MX3S, PIII-S Tualatin 1133, Radeon 9800Pro@XT BIOS, Diamond monster sound MX300
JetWay K8T8AS, Athlon DH-E6 3000+, Radeon HD2600Pro AGP, Audigy 2 Value
Yeah, I admitted I am not much of an overclocker, and neither is this Tillamook specimen that I have here.
So I understand the mechanism of the BF2 mod now (243571-002.pdf page 18), and instead I made a quick wire mod without any soldering to force the 4x Multiplier.
But the highest speed I could get the system to boot with is 380MHz. That is with 2,2 Volt VCC, and I measure 3,5 Volt I/O VCC3. At 2,1 Volt it could not finish 3DMark. Not going to try 2,3 or 2,4 Volt.
200 MHz, at 100 MHz FSB, 1,9 Volt -> 1286 3DMarks2000
300 MHz, at 100 MHz FSB, 2,0 Volt -> 1564 3DMarks2000
350 MHz, at 100 MHz FSB, 2,0 Volt -> 1626 3DMarks2000
380 MHz, at _95 MHz FSB, 2,2 Volt -> 1657 3DMarks2000
--> ISA Soundcard Overview // Doom MBF 2.04 // SetMul
Nice :p
Strange that 400 was a problem. Maybe try a board recap?
So you are using a wuadro nvs 280? Which is a 5500?
Try a quadro 2 with 7.76 drivers or a radeon 9800 pro with oldest drivers that work or geforce 3 ti 500 with 7.76 drivers or a radeon 7500 with oldest drivers
5500 is nice but not record breaker usually
Sphere478 wrote on 2023-10-21, 15:26:Strange that 400 was a problem. Maybe try a board recap?
I also suspected the board at first. The board was like 50% recapped already. It had bad caps of a certain type. But the other 50% are still the original ones.
Other evidence suggests it is actually the CPU itself:
- I can run a K6-2+ 500MHz on it.. Just installed it, and it boots up at first try. (3DMark2000: 2382 @400MHz / 2627 @500MHz / 600MHz unstable at 2,1V)
- As noted: Raised VCC voltage made the higher CPU speeds work for the Tillamook. 2x100 Always works fine, even at 1,9 Volt.
Sphere478 wrote on 2023-10-21, 15:30:So you are using a Quadro nvs 280? Which is a 5500?
No it is another Quadro. NV17 based like GeForce4 MX 440.
