Hi guys,

today I got my retro PC fully up and running. Now I am running my Gigabyte GA586s with a P1-MMX 200Mhz. Since the motherboard's SIS 5571 chipset has no UDMA support and performs poorly, I decided to upgrade the system with a Dawicontrol DC-150 RAID. Flashed with a 2007 bios, it runs and boots without problems under Windows 98 se. But in the ATTO benchmark I get a maximum of 36MB @Write and 41MB @read. These are of course not bad values, but can someone explain to me where the bottleneck is?

Best regards,
JF 😉

What sort of storage device are you reading/writing from/to to get those numbers? If it's a Compact Flash or SD adapter, the adapter or flash media you're using could be limiting your throughput.

Hello Madmac_5,

thanks for your reply. I am using a hard drive - seagate barracuda 7200 250gb. I guess it should be fast enough to get over 40MB R/W. I don't know if I'm wrong but with the DC-150 the chipset shouldn't affect the bandwidth anymore, right?

Best regards,
JF

.....of course it is almost 8 times faster than with the onboard IDE controller and the original Seagate Medalist. 😁

Google is broken when it comes to looking this kind of info nowadays, will spam you with everything but the actual relevant results. Still I managed to find anegdotal evidence in line with your results https://news.asbis.com/news/suppliers/seagate … upbeat-reviews/

"Compare that with the 57MB/sec. recorded from a 250GB Seagate hard drive (ST3250824AS 3.AA) also installed in the system."
40 vs 57 makes little difference when you consider 200mhz vs 2007 system in the link.

Hello rasz_pl,

that surprises me. Thanks for the article! Then I would say that the performance is quite acceptable for such an old system.

Greetings,
JF
