Unimpressive result ...

My Quadro FX1100 was somewhat faster (I started with a Northwood 2.8/533 to install and get a baseline) but system crashed, and haven't been able to boot with that card again.

Trying some OC of the Willamette, but seems 1.9 is the limit for that one. May try a 1.8 from the stack, but they're all C0 stepping unfortunately.

I was also out of actual s478 heatsinks, so right now, I'm using the retention mechanism called "gravity" which might not put adequate pressure on ... 🤣

Anyways, here are first shot - everything is standard 😉

Pretty cool to browse VOGONS on such an old system - unfortunately I can't remember my password, so not logged in from there 😉

ASUS P4P800 SE, 1GiB of DDR in DUAL-channel config. Palit Daytona GF4 Ti4200 - all at stock speeds

You should test with some older drivers. You'll probably get a bump in score.

Found some XP drivers. Not sure about the version now, but figured they'd be old enough 🤣 can't quite get the hang of how old it makes sense, or some good source to use for information?

[Edit] the link you posted earlier on is pretty clear about that. Thanks, I'll investigate further 😀

There's a lot of old Nvidia drivers versions on vogonsdrivers. I picked the one I used there.
But sometimes the description does not specify the supported GPUs (so you need to check online)... and sometimes it's specified but contains errors...(so you also need to check online)

In my first test I used XP and the latest driver. With W98 and earlier driver i achieved a 1000/1500 higher score.

Probably worth a try

Well, an older driver did help to some extent 😀

But installing 98 is not something, I'm gonna do as I only have USB at hand 🤣

Next step; overclocking. I've almost forgot - which software to overclock the GPU? IIRC it clocked close to a Ti4600 on the core, and somewhat faster than a Ti4400 on the memory back when it was my daily driver's graphics card ...

RivaTuner for nvidia cards.

Oh !
Do you plan to use it in your s423 system ?
This should perform almost exactly like my Quadro4 980XGL (same GPU same freq. Agp 4x vs 8x but should not make any difference).
Curious to see it in action !

Edit : these cards does not overclock well. I tested it at 330 core / 750 mem (core can't go much higher). No significant improvement in 3DMark2000 (sometimes lower scores)

I’ve had an Asus P4P800 turn up today. Given I didn’t even get a worthwhile score from the PCIe based Asrock P4VM890 I hope the AGP based Asus does me proud.

Lots of GPUs to try, Geforce 3, Geforce 4 Ti4800, Quadro FX1000, Quadro FX3000, Geforce 6800XT, Geforce 7900 GS and a Radeon X1950XTX.

Also got a couple of E0 stepping CPUs on the way (1.6 and 1.7GHz), might clock better than my D0 1.9GHz (which will hit a wall at 117*19).

I apologize, but at the moment I cannot participate, I have the PC but I have to download the SW, but besides that PC, which I remember is a Gigabyte with P4 423 2000 and 1 GB 🇬🇧 RDRAM, I have others that I can convert, removing the CPUs P4NW, and putting a 478 Willamette, I don't remember exactly which ones I have, I should have the 1400, the 1600 and maybe the 1800 and the 2000, I have to check which ones I have, I hope to start the benches over the weekend, with at least one PC.

AMD 286-16 287-10 4MB HD 45MB VGA 256KB
AMD 386DX-40 Intel 387 8MB HD 81MB VGA 256KB
Cyrix 486DLC-40 IIT387-40 8MB VGA 512KB
AMD 5X86-133 16MB VGA VLB CL5428 2MB and many others
AMD K62+ 550 SOYO 5EMA+ and many others

My benchmarks are run in an Asus P4P800 SE. Curious to see your scores with a somewhat larger pool of graphics to choose from. Also I'm excited to hear how much better the E0 stepping overclocks I only have D0s available except for some Celerons. Funny, BTW, it seems that 1.9 and 2.0 never came in E0 stepping?

This shuttle boots now after doing the VID pin mod. Windows 98 seems stable but 3Dmark definitely isn't. It doesnt like to cold boot or restarting.

Wow, and it's even a D0 and not E0 stepping ... How the ef do you manage getting that to 3+ GHz? Impressive

What kind of cooling did you use to get to 3.3Ghz?

The stock cooler from the Shuttle SS51G. Motherboard is out of the case. It has 4 heat pipes up to a small heat sink with an 80mm fan.

This is maximum I can OC the Ti4200 without extensive artefacts. Next, trying one version older and newer driver, respectively. Also considering going 72 MHz AGP, but until now it has been unstable ...
