I see someone has a preference for uATX. 😀 Is the Willamette board going to be the same form factor?

Hopefully that motherboard is with SDRAM, reviewing the different scores on the first page, although they are not updated, I am very curious about the results of another Willamette with SDRAM, the RAMBUS memory seems to not show the great theoretical advantage in the results.
I would like to see more FX series graphics cards that could have been used in a 423 at the time, those results would be interesting I think.
I have a couple of FX series cards, a 5700ve and a 5600, but I can't find them.

Were 423 motherboards with SDRAM so unusual? I thought that motherboards with RAMBUS would be even less common and 423 motherboards with DDR would be very rare.
It will depend on the area of the world where you live, like so many other things I imagine. Here RAMBUS was exceptionally expensive.

I'm kinda sure that DDR didn't come around for Netburst before s423 was long phased out ... Something about Intel was obligated by contract for a number of years not to make chipsets for p4 using anything but RDRAM and SDRAM, the latter being starved for bandwidth making the Netburst architecture stumble ...

Please use the "quote" option if asking questions to what I write - it will really up the chances of me noticing 😀

no 423 mobo yet, i could not get it, but got a brand new gtx 460 instead, that card is ok for my cedar mill benchmark, but a little bit an overkill for a pentium 4 cpu.

its hard to get 423 boards today, they are rare and they are from OEM manufacturers most of the time, last time i saw a 423 board was in 2003, an ECS pink color from a clone pc manufacturer.

im not really picky about form factors, my two netburst boards i have, I got them from friends real cheap, pentium 4 boards are very precious assets, you dont know when youre gonna need an Up and running windows nt 4.0 again.

i keep searching for my 423 board, i want my intel pentium 4 consumer grade collection 423-478-775 complete before the end of the year.

Apologies if i've already posted in this thread about the P4 I use.

There's some pics of the original build here - P4 3.06 / RD-RAM / FX Graphics But I have since changed the case, storage and operating system.

My P4 retro gaming pc is based on an Intel motherboard and so sadly has no overclocking options.

Specs:
Intel Pentium 4 3.06
Intel D850EMV2
512MB PC1066 RD-RAM (2x256MB Samsung modules)
Quadro FX3000 256MB
SB Audigy
Windows ME
128GB Kingston CF card

I've settled on using ME with this machine because it boots up much faster than 98SE and it always shutdowns properly. 98 for whatever reason will just randomly sit at the shutting down screen.

Results:
3dmark2000 - 17070
3dmark2001 - 14181
3dmark2003 - 5315

Scores updated! Your 2K score was decent.

Cool!

I did a bit of video card overclocking. Default clockspeeds according to the Nvidia control panel are 400mhz core and 800mhz memory.

This Quadro card is rock stable with a 50mhz overclock on core and 100mhz on memory so here are the results with those settings:
3dmark2000 - 17182
3dmark2001 - 14676
3dmark2003 - 5770

From memory I think it's fairly stable with another 10-15mhz on either but these are the speeds I typically leave it at for regular use.

I don't think there's any more performance to be squeezed out with this motherboard but I would love to find an affordable Asus board to use this CPU and RAM in. Unfortunately the ebay prices are way too much these days though.

EDIT: BTW all these results are with the machine in it's normal full setup. I can pull out the Audigy and NIC if you think it'll up the results a bit and re-run 3dmark.

According to comments on the recent Core2 thread, they're hitting a die off point. So I don't know if it's wise to invest in one at any price. Even if you get it for free and it works now, you're gonna get emotionally invested in it and then pay the silly money for another one and have that die too. Famed "good boards" are all network effect and baader meinhof effect anyway, name recognition and giving it free rent in your head, need to discover the actual good ones for yourself.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Perhaps I should have said it this way instead, regardless of brand I would like a board with some overclocking options that would work with this cpu and ram.

BECH 99 AND 2001 wont work due... i dont know, maybe a win 7 thing.

(The Prescott microarchitecture was designed to support Intel 64, Intel's implementation of the AMD-developed x86-64 64-bit extensions to the x86 architecture, but the initial models shipped with their 64-bit capability disabled.)

I managed to load one of those bench programs, which I had in other PCs, but in the Willy and others I could not load, it is the 3DBench, I tried unsuccessfully a previous version, then with the 2001 SE, it started and completed the installation.

To sum up it's about this PC:

MB ECS P4IBAS (478 with 3 SDRAMs)

CPU P4 Willamette 478 1700/256/400

VGA AGP Gigabyte GV-R955256T 256 MB

3X 512 MB PC133 Elpida chip

HD WD Caviar 307AA 30.7GB

This in summary of the system, I will make some changes later, but currently it is so.

The score obtained seems to me quite below average, but I could be wrong, maybe it's not so?!?

I just found that opengl is not supported on win 7 just d3d, 2001 bench can just run on d3d mode and ogl test is skipped. on win xp, 2000, 9x are supported for full bench support.

Ok Thank you very much, unfortunately at the moment I have Windows 7 loaded, later I could install an older version of Windows, and redo the benches, maybe get a different score, hopefully better.

I finally managed to load the 3D Mark 2000, I ran the bench on the Willy 1700 PC, the score speaks for itself, consider that that PC has SDRAM, and is therefore a little slower than those with RDRAM or DDR .
