Looks to be on the TERMPWR line.
My guess would be a diode with a low forward voltage drop.

I doubt though that replacing that diode will fix the drive.

Honestly, I can't even tell from your photo if that diode is burnt, let alone judge if the board is toast.

Does the drive still spin up ? Do you hear the heads move ?
Is the drive still detected by the scsi controller/software ?

Fact is, hard drives do die. Wether it's the electronics or the mechanics that fail.
I had an old 32MB RLL drive once from which I would've liked to recuperate some data.
Unfortunately I was too late. My drive still spins up, moves its heads, and then spins down 🙁
I can only guess at what has failed for me and that would be some data on the discs has gotten corrupted, causing the microcontroller to throw in the towel.
Someday when time & knowledge permits it, I'll have another look and figure out how it works and if there's still some data to recover.
Until that day though, that old data, for me, is lost.

The picture is from a similar drive on ebay. But yes, the drive still spins but it is not detected by the controller.
I also lost a 30mb ESDI HDD from a PS1 2011.
You are right. It is sad and hopefully someday a solution may arrise.
