Hey all, i just purchased a cheap ST DX4-100 on ebay. It works but only reports as a dx2-66 i have checked the clkmul pin which is high. Per the ST datasheet it should triple the fsb which is 33Mhz which ive verified with a scope.
I even tried a different bios no luck either.
The motherboard is a 4SGS-3VL VER2.2
So im starting to think i have a fake cpu?
Any ideas? Thanks

Could be that the bios of that board knows nothing about the particular chip and just identified it as a dx2-66.

Have you ran any benchmark tool to see what performance it is actually giving you? It could be just the bios doesn't know what it is, but is still running clock tripled.

So ive tried a few different BIOS images and found one that works, posts and displays dx4 100, (i found a image for a different board with same chipset) but the system hangs and wont load a OS off a boot disk.
I think i need a updated bios for the board
4SGS-3VL VER2.2. I have tried the bios on Retroweb but still identifys the board as a dx2
Unless there is something i can do in bios settings?

Having it being displayed as DX2-66 usually is no problem - probably as long as you won't use default timings.
Just ensure that DRAM and cache timings are stable and optimized.

Have you tried patching original bios for that motherboard with Bios Patcher?

http://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fileid=1904

Or Modbin, didn't manage to find link on vogons file share, but it can be found with google.

But I think that Bios Patcher could help here. It's been a while since I used it last time, but if I remember correctly it can add new CPU descriptions to the BIOS image.

The orginal bios seems to be too old for biospatcher :,(

Well, you may have to find an older version of MODBIN then.
