I'm going to change my desktop printer, and the model chosen has ethernet connection and PCL and PS emulation. I was thinking about printing on older systems, being real (I've got a laptop with Windows 98SE and another one with Windows XP) or emulated (maybe Windows 3.1 and DOS), but...
- The manufacturer only has drivers for Windows 7 or later.
- Fortunately it also has drivers for windows (with a propietary executable), and openprinting has standalone PPDs for it.

So I could use HP drivers for that printer, but I'm not sure that every capability will work (i.e.: duplex) and the tray selection is a hit or miss thing.

On the other side, I've got that PPDs that (on Linux system) informs the driver of everything about the printer... but are there any "generic" PS driver that can use PPDs for printing? If so, where can I get some info about it?

I have traveled across the universe and through the years to find Her.
