I have a DFI CA64-EC motherboard that has integrated AC'97 sound, which is enabled from the BIOS with the "Onboard Legacy Audio" option, it even has the "Sound Blaster" option, however, when I try to install its drivers In Windows 98 or MS-DOS, a message alerts that Legacy Audio has not been enabled from the BIOS.

I've even tried updating the BIOS but I haven't had any luck.

If this can be solved, maybe someone here can give me some advice.

Bad VIA sound chip ? You have enough PCI slots, have you tried any PCI audio cards ?
added: not a fan of DFI, have a few boards and they all have quirks compared to same era Asus, Giga, MSI, Asrock, etc....

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

I have tested with my CT4740 Sound Blaster PCI 128 and it works correctly.

Ouch ! That could be the cause. Can you post a picture of that area ?

Hmmm, 50:50 shot they're okay, but I'd also take a closer look at the smaller caps that are tilted near the AMR slot and the BIOS chip, could be damaged at the base, be cracked off the board or blew out at the bottom.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.
