Hi,

I have an AOpen MX6B-EZ which is matx board with 440ZX chipset. I'm currently using a slot Pentium 3 at 500mhz. My GeForce 4200ti is however bottlenecked a bit, even when I crank up the settings to higher resolution. The manual of the board says it supports full range cpu core voltage between 1.3v to 3.5v. Does that mean I can use any cheap slotket without voltage control/vrm? something like the attached photo ? Can I use a higher speed Celeron on it (Coppermine or Tualatin over 1 ghz) or does it need modding?

That slotket should run all Coppermines and Coppermine type Celerons on BX boards but I am not sure about ZX. It will not run Tualatins without modding. https://www.targetpc.com/hardware/cpu/evercoo … /adapter_fcpga/

ZX is not much different from BX, I'm hoping it will work fine. I bought a new old stock slotket like the one in the photo. Will it work with the modded Tualatin from the nice Korean guy do you think? I'd rather not mod the slotket itself. I really wish the slotket info would be all put together somewhere, been reading the forum for ages to determine if it's better to use this slotket with a modded Tualatin or just give in and pay for the weaker slot 850mhz 100fsb... Great websites but the info gets diluted massively.

I have no experience with the modded korean cpu's but have come across quite a few success stories here on Vogons and/but also seen some failures with generic slotkets . For your ti4200 a Tualatin seems the best option; they do not bring their optimal performance with Coppermines. In case you want to try here a link that describes the modding of a 370cpu slotket:

Unfortunately, the Korean guy didn't answer my message on ebay and I can't actually see his listing from ebay uk so I'm not sure he even delivers to UK. I bought a Coppermine Celeron at 1ghz for £10 to test the sloket when it arrives. In total I spent just £25 for both, whereas the slot 1 Pentium at 850mhz 100fsb is around £64 on ebay.

I'm not particularly sure I've got a low profile heatsink for socket 370. I do have a modern 3pin 5cm fan to use, it should be almost silent.

Those high end Coppermines and Coppermine Celerons need adequate cooling; a 5 cm fan on a tiny sink may not do the trick. Here an image of an original :

There are more detailed CPU support lists for the board here...
